Headache

Most of us will experience episodes of headache during our lives and often can

the cause may be complex. With us you can get help to find the cause of yours

headaches and receive tailored treatment for your ailments.

Most headaches are harmless ailments, but severe persistent headaches should be taken care of

seriously and should be examined by a doctor. This applies especially to children and young people,

acute new type of headache, headache after a fall/stroke or which changes character. It is

our job is to rule out other causes of headaches, and to refer further if necessary.

Headaches are often accompanied by other symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, malaise,

dizziness and difficulty concentrating. The problem with headaches is that this often

can affect mood, everyday activities and many become irritable and depressed.

Chronic headaches can often lead to a reduced quality of life.

Like other pains in the body, a headache is a warning that something may be wrong.

Malfunctions in the muscles and joints of the neck can often contribute to headaches.

Normal factors that can lead to headaches are stress, lack of sleep, dehydration,

drug use and menstruation/hormone changes.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF HEADACHE

Tension headache (tension headache)

● The most common form of headache

● Often linked to stress or lack of sleep

● Often felt on both sides of the head, and the pain can progress towards

the forehead and is often explained as a tight band around the head.

● The pain is often mild, but can last for longer periods

Migraines

● The cause has not been fully mapped, but recent research indicates that it

may be a neurological connection

● Most often experienced as a unilateral attack

● Pain around the forehead, temple and eye

● Lasts between 4-72 hours

● Can often experience nausea, light or sound shyness

● One can see that physical treatment of neck, shoulder and jaw problems in

patients with migraine in some cases can help, as one can

optimize function in muscles and joints. Physical therapy will not

treat the migraine itself.

Cervicogenic headache/neck-related headache

● Often due to a malfunction in the neck

● Often felt on one side of the head

● The pain often spreads to the temple or behind the eye

● Some people experience shoulder pain with this headache

● The symptoms may be somewhat similar to a migraine attack, but cervicogenic headache

is rarely relieved by medication.

TMD induced headache (Jaw related)

● Stress that causes biting and grinding of teeth

● Bite errors

● The pain is located in the jaw, the top of the head, around the eyes and ears

● Jaw-related pain is often seen in connection with neck problems, such as

often has a good effect with physical treatment
